Another year, another Latitude. I am not sure at what point I will be saying "I'm getting too old for all this ..."
This was not the BEST Latitude that I have been to but there was enough to keep me happy over the three days.
I didn't interview too many people this year. I had great fun chatting to Ross and Jaf from the Futureheads, who are both incredibly tall. I also interviewed Martha again and Brickwork Lizards.
After years of trying I also got to chat to Stina from Honeyblood - but I felt that it was very rushed and wasn't able to give it my best.
I also spoke to "next big thing" Joy Crookes - which was hard work. It's the first time that someone has interrupted their own interview with me so they can chat up a security guard. And before you say "that's probably down to your interview technique", I'll say "if it happens again, EVER, I'll agree ...!"
(To be fair, Joy went on to be nominated as one of the BBC Sound of 2020 artists. I'm still writing up this blog ...)
Musical highlights? In probable descending order of highlightedness:
The Futureheads - first time I have seen them for years and they were aboslutely brilliant. Well, the three songs they played were. A lightning storm forced everyone off stage. This was the only set all weekend that was cut because of the weather ... how unlucky is that?
Life - energetic set, joined on stage by Nadine Shah at the end too.
Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard - almost seemed like a joke band but just because they were enjoying themselves on stage so much.
Working Men's Club - fantastic life performance which they haven't quite yet tranlsated to their single releases
Black Country, New Road - see above!
Who else did I catch ...
Walking On Cars
The Big Moon
