Hammersmith Apollo, London
Artists watched: B-52's, Trapdoor Social
This is a BIG one ticked off my band bucket list. I've wanted to see the B-52's live for a long long time.
That's a LOW EFFORT flyer, boo!
And here we are! Support was from American band Trapdoor Social who must be well connected at the record company to land a European support slot! Nah, they were okay.
Tickets for this show sold out very quickly - it's been several years since they played the UK and they still have a lot of fans over here. Despite having a combined age of 201, Fred, Kate and Cindy ran around the stage with the kind of energy I wish I had. In fact I hope I have half their energy when I get to their age!
The setlist centered mostly on their earlier stuff and also one of my favourite albums of all time, 1989's Cosmic Thing which is shockingly coming up to its 30th anniversary any day now. Nothing from Bouncing Off The Satellites or Good Stuff, but 9 of the 16 songs came from their first two albums, The B-52's and Wild Planet - including the fantastic Give Me Back My Man, whose Top Pop (Dutch TV) appearance is one of my favourite TV music clips ever too.
As you can see the ticket is marked "Farewell European Tour" although they are still going strong in the USA. This is probably my first and last B-52's gig though, and it didn't disappoint ...
Photos didn't come out too bad! They were mostly taken by my Panasonic Lumix TZ-80 - good to see the Apollo stage nicely lit up tonight.
